WAC South Pole

LROC images each pole every two hours to monitor the lighting environment. Due to the grazing Sun angles near the poles; large shadows make mapping the regions difficult. However, by selecting images taken during two one-month periods, when the Sun was highest on the horizon, polar mosaics were created with a minimum of shadows. The north polar mosaic used images acquired between 18 March 2011 and 19 April 2011, while the south polar mosaic used images taken between 21 Sept. 2010 and 23 Oct. 2010.
