Oblique view of Antoniadi Crater

The Moon is a rugged place; in fact, some mountains rise more than 8 km above the locale terrain. The 4000 m tall cliff in the background is the east wall of Antoniadi crater (140 km diameter). The bottom of the small, bowl-shaped crater (12 km diameter) tucked behind peaks in the center ground is the lowest point on the Moon; more than 9 km below the mean radius (comparable to sea level on the Earth). Imagine orbiting the Moon as this spectacular landscape passes beneath you!
