Directly Above Giordano Bruno

Giordano Bruno is about 21 kilometers (13 miles) across. Rock melted by the impact that formed the crater collected in pools on the crater floor as much as 3 kilometers (2 miles) below the rim of its steep walls. In some places on the crater floor (middle of the image) you can see where molten rock overtopped some features and flowed downhill before solidifying.

Mosaicking images of features with large relief is a big challenge due to the parallax effects at the edge of the images. Eight NAC images were map projected using a topographic model of the crater derived from thirteen NAC stereo sets. The latitude, longitude and elevation of each pixel in the mosaic was computed with the help of the topography and placed in its exact position. See if you can find any seams!
